These terms explain how you can use the CheckHPI website and buy our vehicle history checks. Please read them before you buy. By using our website or buying a check, you agree to these terms.
About us
CheckHPI (checkhpi.uk) is operated by Hill Davenport Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in England and Wales with company number 11854403. Our registered office is Unit 19 Millmead Business Centre, Millmead Road, London, N17 9QU, United Kingdom.
You can contact us by email at [email protected], by phone on 0333 344 8266, or by post at our registered office.
CheckHPI is an independent service. “HPI” is widely used to describe a vehicle history check, and we are not affiliated with HPI Limited.
Our service
We provide vehicle information based on a UK registration number:
- Free check: basic vehicle details, MOT status and tax status.
- Standard check: adds outstanding finance, stolen vehicle and insurance write-off records.
- Premium check: adds mileage history, plate change history and the number of previous keepers.
- Ultimate check: adds a market valuation and our Data Guarantee.
The current contents and prices of each check are shown on our pricing page and before you pay.
Where our information comes from
Our reports are compiled from third-party sources, which may include government bodies, finance and insurance industry databases and police records. We take care to use reputable sources, but we don’t create the underlying records and can’t guarantee that every record is complete, accurate or up to date.
A report reflects the information available at the moment it is produced. Records can change at any time, so if time passes before you buy a vehicle, we recommend running the check again.
What a check is not
A vehicle history check covers recorded history only. It is not a mechanical inspection, a survey of the vehicle’s condition or a guarantee of its quality. It can’t tell you about accidents or repairs that were never recorded on the databases we search. You should always inspect the vehicle, check its documents and service history and, for larger purchases, consider an independent inspection.
Ordering and payment
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include any VAT that applies.
- Each paid check is a one-off payment for one vehicle. We don’t charge subscriptions.
- Payments are processed securely by our third-party payment provider. We don’t see or store your full card details.
- You must enter the correct registration number. Please check it carefully before you pay.
- Your contract with us is formed when we confirm your payment, and your report is delivered on screen, by email and as a downloadable PDF.
Your right to cancel
Our reports are digital content supplied immediately. When you buy a check, we ask you to agree that the report will be supplied straight away and to acknowledge that you will lose your 14-day right to cancel once the report has been delivered. This is permitted under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
This doesn’t affect your other legal rights. If a report is faulty or not as described, please see our Refund Policy.
Using your report
Your report is for your own personal use in connection with buying, selling or owning the vehicle. You may share it with the other party to a sale. You must not resell reports, use them to build a database, or use our website or data for any commercial purpose without our written permission.
Using our website
You agree not to misuse our website, including by attempting to gain unauthorised access, introducing malicious code, using automated tools to extract data, or using the service for any unlawful purpose. We may suspend access if we reasonably believe the service is being misused.
All content on our website, including text, graphics, logos and software, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
Our responsibility to you
If you are a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to digital content that is faulty or not as described. Nothing in these terms affects those rights. For more information, contact Citizens Advice.
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses.
Except where our Data Guarantee applies, our total liability to you in connection with a report is limited to the price you paid for it. This is because we compile information from third-party sources and a report is not a substitute for inspecting the vehicle.
We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Data Guarantee
Ultimate checks include our Data Guarantee, which is subject to its own terms. Please read the Data Guarantee page for full details.
Your personal data
We use your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with our service, please tell us. Our Complaints page explains how we handle complaints.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the one shown on our website when you placed it.
Law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
